It's official - sequins are back

Ever wonder where the sequin
trend of 2009 went? The iconic looks created by the likes of Emma Watson, Katy
Perry and Selena Gomez are now coming back.
Sequins
have been traced all the way back to King Tut, and the "sequin-like
discs" found on clothes in his tomb.

However, Herbert Lieberman began to create acetate sequins after realising that gelatin sequins just weren't going to work.
In 1952, DuPont invented Mylar, and this was used as a coating to protect the sequins from the washing machine.
Eventually
the Mylar acetate was replaced with vinyl plastic, which was more cost
effective.
And this
was how the sequin that we all know and love (or hate, each to their own!)
became the iconic statement piece worn by legends such as Michael Jackson.
